Remove That Funky Lunch Box Smell
Freshen up a smelly lunch box with a slice of bread and distilled white vinegar.
Generously moisten the bread with white vinegar and pop it in the lunch box overnight. Be sure to close the lunch box. In the morning, remove the bread. Wash, rinse and dry your lunch box. Your stinky problem should be a thing of the past!
Lunch Box Still Smelly?
Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda inside the lunch box and stuff full of crumpled newspapers. Allow to sit for 24-48 hours. The baking soda and newspaper should absorb any left over smells.
Can’t Beat the Funk?
Time to get a new lunch box.

That’s an interesting tip. I’m going to have remember it! I usually just wipe the boys’ lunchboxes out with a Clorox wipe about once a week and I always make sure they are emptied and left opened up over night.

Jean, my kids are notorious for leaving their lunch box in the car, their back pack, at school…and I’m notorious for forgetting to round them up the night before…so we get a lot of smelly lunch box funk. I don’t use bleach or other commercial cleaners because I worry about fruit (apples, pears, etc.) coming in contact with any chemical residue. (Probably being paranoid, but it absolves some of my mothers-guilt.)
Just an FYI if you ever get funky ice-chest, spraying newspaper with vinegar and letting it sit closed is great way to get rid of that smell.
